Seated like in the clouds
An invitation to a "Test Sit" on the ATP designed "KORNATA" in Vienna's Leopold Museum was followed by an exclusive tour of the current exhibition.
“Creating seating is not our core business” joked Dario Travas, the chief designer of ATP architects engineers of Vienna, at the presentation of KORNATA in the Leopold Museum in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. “But it was a highly enjoyable finger exercise”. Three examples of his elegant and communicative piece of furniture are now permanently exhibited and in use.
As part of an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition “Clouds – Fleeting Worlds”, Professor Christoph Achammer (TU Vienna, CEO ATP), Horst Reiner (CEO ATP Vienna), Dario Travas (Chief Designer ATP Vienna) and their team welcomed many representatives of the worlds of art, culture, architecture and business to a culinary-architectural “Test Sit“ on the KORNATA. The guests included Wilfried Stadler (ATP Supervisory Board), the journalist Claus Reitan, Peter and Sabine Haag (KHM Kunsthistorisches Museum), Yvonne Weiler, the widow of the painter Max Weiler, the architects Georg Soyka, Markus Spiegelfeld and Günther Holnsteiner, Elisabeth Thun-Hohenstein (TNS Networking Services), Elisabeth and Klaus Thoman (Galerie E+K Thoman), Stefan and Nicole Ehrlich-Adám (EVVA), Georg Dax (Board of Valida Pension AG), Andrea Herbeck (Probus Real Estate), Anton Draskovits (Köhler Draskovits Unger Rechtsanwälte), Andrea Herbeck (Probus Real Estate), Martin Kutschera (BOP Immoholding), Peter Schak (Wilfried Heinzel AG), Michael Walter (GVELUX Österreich) and many others...
Each KORNATA offers space for six people, is composed of a two component polyurethane system and is both weather and UV-proof and impact and scratch-resistant. Dario Travas was inspired by the gentle silhouette of the Kornati Islands, the largest and densest island group in the Croatian Adriatic. The two basic ideas behind the design of the seats are, in his words, on the one hand “my attempt to use as functional an interpretation as possible of the soft flowing contours of the island as an inspiration for an organic form and, on the other hand, the possibility of using an element of seating to react to a surrounding space in a number of ways”.
The seat was specially developed for use in public spaces – in shopping centers, public squares and exhibition spaces. Two KORNATA can already be found as islands in the atria of the Leopold Museum in Vienna’s Museumsquartier. The third element was integrated into the exhibition “Clouds – Fleeting Worlds” where it is waiting for visitors who want to rest a while and try it out...
