German Design Award for the OMV office building

Vienna, 12th October 2018 – The OMV office building, which was integrally designed by ATP Vienna with the help of BIM for the Austrian oil company OMV, received a “Special Mention” in the architectural category of the German Design Awards. The expert jury lavished particular praise on the outstanding design quality of the expressive stacked building.

“The OMV office building combines a state-of-the-art working environment and exceptional architecture to create an expressive whole. I am delighted that our efforts have now been recognized by this award”, said Lead Project Manager Birgit Reiterer of ATP Vienna, referring to, amongst other things, the successful architectural solution of stacking the elements that lends the solid building volume a sense of lightness and elegance. The modern office complex with its staggered, floating levels provides OMV with a new visiting card at the entrance to the refinery and on the motorway between the airport and downtown Vienna.

A further special feature of the building is the dramatic arrival courtyard that also acts as an entrance to the entire refinery complex. Here, dynamically sloping load-bearing supports make a generous welcoming gesture. Hidden from this elegant forecourt, calm and extremely high quality internal courtyards between the building elements enhance the light-filled complex.

The GermanDesignAward honors innovative products and projects that can be seen as pioneers in the German and international design landscape. The renowned prize is awarded by the RatfürFormgebung (The German Design Council), Germany’s authority in the field of branding and design. The title “Special Mention” commends work whose design demonstrates particularly successful elements or solutions. It is an award that honors the commitment of both companies and designers.

The award ceremony will take place in Frankfurt on 8th February 2019.
