German Design Award 2021
The Markas Headquarters receive a Special Mention
The headquarters of the service providers Markas in Bolzano (IT), which were integrally designed with BIM by ATP Innsbruck, received a “Special Mention” at the German Design Awards.
A contemporary sense of space
The office tower has a well-proportioned volume, which is able to “expand downwards”. The building is accessible to the public via a forecourt. At a height of 14 meters, suspended above a number of “floating floors,” is a garden level for break times and events. A prerequisite for the column-free and, hence, extremely flexible open office concept is the v-shaped façade construction, which combines with the central circulation cores to form the load-bearing structure.
The jury principally praised the open character of the floors, adding that “this leads to a friendly, bright, and contemporary sense of space that is wonderfully enhanced by the young and fresh interiors.”
About the award
The German Design Award (GDA) is one of the world’s best-known design prizes and is highly respected, even beyond professional circles. It is awarded by the German Design Council, a competence center in the fields of design, brands, and innovation. Each year, the GDA honors top-quality submissions from the areas of product and communication design, which play a pioneering role on the international design landscape.
The “Special Mention” label celebrates the rigorous conception and implementation of design ideas.
