Time Capsule in the Foundation

Laying of the Foundation Stone for Boehringer Ingelheim Office Building

By 2027, a new 'Smart-Working' office for Boehringer Ingelheim will be built in Vienna-Meidling. The particularly resource-efficient energy concept relies on geothermal energy, photovoltaics, and heat pumps with the aim of achieving LEED certification as well as a climate-active declaration, each in Gold.

Roughly a year and a half after groundbreaking, ATP Lead Project Manager Florian Stohl celebrated another milestone together with representatives from Boehringer Ingelheim and Swietelsky: the laying of the foundation stone for the new office and administration building in Vienna-Meidling. During the ceremony, a time capsule was placed in the foundation containing a certificate, project description, and a current newspaper.

With the laying of the foundation stone, we not only laid the foundation for the building. It also reflects the outstanding performance, dedication, and competence of the entire project team in turning an idea into reality.

Smart Working
The new building is only a few minutes' walk from the main Vienna location. As the new centerpiece of the "Regional Center Vienna" site, it will centralize all administrative functions in the future. The offices are perfectly tailored to the needs of the employees: spread over seven upper floors, there are diverse office spaces and a modern meeting landscape – from open creative meeting areas and retreat zones to traditional meeting rooms. A company restaurant, a barista station, and a mini-market complement the offerings for the employees. A green inner courtyard and green roof terraces additionally provide space for relaxation.

Sustainable Energy Concept
Together with ATP sustain, we aim for a LEED certification and a klimaaktiv declaration, each in Gold – two of the highest standards for sustainable construction. A geothermal system covers the heating needs in winter, provides sufficient hot water, and ensures a pleasant room temperature in summer. At the start of construction, a total of 90 ground heat probes were anchored at a depth of 150 meters. They deliver approximately 420 kilowatts of power, equivalent to the energy supply of 52 single-family homes. PV panels will be installed on the roofs and facades. Furthermore, 'green' concrete is used, whose production causes significantly fewer CO₂ emissions than conventional concrete types.

With the new building, we clearly commit to the Vienna location. This investment is in the future of our company and in the people who do important work here every day. The new construction brings together employees who are currently spread across multiple locations in Vienna. At the same time, space is being created on the existing campus for future expansions in research and production.
