He flew ahead – An Architects' Poem
ATP sponsors movie about the architect Karl Schwanzer
This year's Christmas donation from ATP architects engineers is dedicated to an exceptional cultural project: The film "Er flog voraus" by director Max Gruber is a subtle homage to the architect Karl Schwanzer, starring the Burgtheater actor Nicholas Ofczarek.
With more than 600 works, including the BMW Four-Cylinder Headquarters in Munich and the Museum Belvedere 21 in Vienna, Karl Schwanzer undoubtedly ranks among the most significant Austrian architects of the post-war period. The support for the film about this visionary and leading figure in contemporary architecture, who passed away in 1975, was a matter of the heart for ATP's Chairman of the Board, Univ. Prof. Christoph M. Achammer, as he stated:
“Karl Schwanzer was one of those Austrian architects who, in my opinion, pursued the Vitruvian criteria of Utilitas, Firmitas, and Venustas in his work in the most uncompromising manner. As the Dean at the TU Wien for what were then still civil engineers AND architects and as the creator of the industrial icons for BMW, he is one of those role models for us Integrated Designers at ATP architects engineers who motivate us to change the world for the better with our buildings.” said the founding partner of the leading integrated design office in Europe today.

Director and producer Max Gruber knows the sponsorship amount of 20,000 euros was well spent: "The generous support from ATP architects and engineers has greatly helped us realize the film on time and with the high standards of a feature film. Particularly beautiful is that we were able to gain a sponsor, ATP, who brings a deep understanding of architecture and a strong thematic connection to the protagonist of our film."
About the Movie
"The Leading Edge" is the unconventional, multi-voiced portrait of an extraordinary personality. Karl Schwanzer was a globally renowned architect, visionary, artist, legend, teacher, and poet. He saw architecture as a tool to make people happy. Nicholas Ofczarek in the role of the architect reflects Schwanzer's masterful play and also shows that true, virtuosic lightness draws from the mysterious depths of the soul, where no one ventures without risk.
The film premieres on October 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vienna Gartenbaukino and can be seen in theaters from October 14.
