Fine-Tuned for the Future with BIM
European Patent Office Vienna in industrieBAU
The revitalization of the existing building is the topic in the industrieBAU special issue 'Digitalization'. Focus is on the sustainability strategy emphasizing circular economy & energy efficiency and the role of Building Information Modeling.
The special issue "Digitalization" of the trade magazine industrieBAU 04/2025 is dedicated to innovative approaches to digital planning and construction. Editor Karin Kronthaler presents the revitalization of the Vienna Green Hub – European Patent Office in Vienna as an outstanding example of sustainable renovation and the consistent use of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
The article sheds light on the comprehensive renovation of the existing building, with the highest standards of sustainability, resource conservation, and energy efficiency. The use of recyclable materials, the highly efficient wooden facade, ecological rainwater use, acoustic climate panels for heating and cooling, as well as the supply of renewable energy, led to the BREEAM certification 'Outstanding'. In close collaboration with ATP sustain, ATP developed a building services concept that makes the building CO2-neutral throughout its entire life cycle.
In the subsequent interview, Lead Project Manager Thomas Krohn (Head Architect, ATP Vienna) and BIM Manager Ursula Reiner (Senior Architect, ATP Vienna) provide insights into digital inventory recording, cloud-based project coordination, and the data transfer from BIM to Facilities Management.
