Kitzbühel's first department store is designed as a digital model
Kitzbühel, 6th December 2012 – The Kitz Galleria, Kitzbühel’s first department store, will be opened in 2013. The completion of the roof was recently celebrated. Designed by ATP architects engineers, the appearance of the building is notable for its straight lines and restrained design. In the words of client Fritz Unterberger “the particular challenge in designing the building was meeting the demands of both aesthetics and functionality while working with the attractive entrance of the “Tschollhaus”, a highly characteristic building in the centre of Kitzbühel. From now on, it will be possible to shop and relax in Kitz Galleria, regardless of the weather.” For both residents and visitors, Kitzbühel’s new landmark will be a central meeting place for shopping, browsing and simply relaxing.
The so-called “Urban Store” is being built on the site of the former KIPA building on the Gries in Kitzbühel. By recreating the form and appearance of the previous building it fits perfectly into its historic context – most particularly the typical Kitzbühel roofscape. The five-storey building with its transparent stairtower and elegant elliptical stair creates a link between the busy town centre and the “Im Gries” district.
The building was completely rebuilt – above all because the existing floor heights were inadequate for a shopping gallery – and reinserted into the townscape with the same shape and appearance as required by the urban planning regulations.
>Kitz Galleria is the first department store in Austria to have been integrally designed with the help of Building Information Modelling (BIM). How does designing with BIM work? A virtual representation of the design idea is created in the form of an object-oriented system. This enables the input of all design partners to flow into a unified building concept from the very first day of the concept development. Processes interact with no loss of information allowing disciplines to cooperate on the development of the building until its final completion.
