Opening of a research building in Bremen

Bremen, 24th June 2015 – The new building designed by ATP architects engineers (Frankfurt) was inaugurated with a commemorative colloquium. ATP CEO Christoph M. Achammer gave the welcoming address to around 120 invited guests from the worlds of business, politics and science. The Bremen Senator Eva Quante-Brandt then symbolically presented the keys of the building to the leaders of the institute Bernd Mayer and Matthias Busse.

ATP was asked to design the extension to the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) on the basis of its success in a competition.

“The aim of the design was to create open worlds of research and work by combining state-of-the-art laboratories with communicative office areas”, explained the architect Jürgen Class, ATP project leader.

The headquarters building on the campus of the university is connected with the new institute building by a glass bridge. The modern brick façade is a reference to the characteristic buildings of the university’s technology park. Around 6,200 square meters of laboratories and offices are grouped around an elegant atrium and an internal courtyard. In an integrated design process ATP and the company ecotec developed a resource-saving building services concept.
