IG Lebenszyklus Congress

A quality offensive by the IG Lebenszyklus Hochbau is seeking to improve the quality standards of building projects

Vienna, 3rd November 2015 – The former Austrian ski jumper and Olympic champion Toni Innauer used the 5th   congress of the IG Lebenszyklus (IGLZ) to draw fascinating parallels between quality awareness in the worlds of sport and construction.

“We require a transformation from a culture of success to a culture of performance in which more attention is paid to team-oriented processes and systems. This applies as much to sport as it does to business” was the convincing message of the ski jumping trainer and sports manager Toni Innauer in his keynote address.

Further highlights of the congress included the presentation of new guidelines, two performance descriptions and a quality offensive by Professor Christoph M. Achammer, CEO of ATP architects engineers.

The aim of the quality offensive is to better publicize the current standards produced by the IGLZ: In cooperation with the Vienna University of Technology and numerous partners flagship projects for lifecycle-oriented process, culture, and organizational quality will be presented next year with the first “lifecycle awards.” In addition to this a comprehensive e-learning platform will promote the increased use of the models and performance descriptions developed by the organization.

“Our target is to use these measures to establish the approach of IG Lebenszyklus Hochbau as a standard for successful building projects with both public and private clients,” said Professor Achammer.

Guidelines
The IGLZ published the eagerly-awaited guidelines: “Actively Shaping Project Culture: Success Factors in Construction Projects – from Strategy to Implementation.” In order to hinder a negative spiral, the organization also defined its first “Code of Culture” with ethical rules for cooperation in building projects.

Two new performance descriptions
Two new performance descriptions for “Commercial Client Representation” and “Commissioning Management” were also presented. The first places the focus on the key commercial questions regarding the building lifecycle. These are neither addressed in the existing descriptions covering cost, time and quality controlling nor are these elements of performance duplicated in the new guidelines. In an ideal case “Commissioning Management” will accompany the ideal project development process and ensures that the right documents are available for an optimal operational start.
