ATP is supporting the “Kindern eine Chance” (A Chance for Children) organisation in the building of a school for around 240 orphans in Uganda.

More than half of the population of Uganda is made up of children below the age of 14, many of whom are AIDS orphans who have to live without parents or family and survive from day-to-day as street children. The Tyrolean charity “Kindern eine Chance” (A Chance for Children) has set itself the goal of giving these children a better future by opening up access to education through supporting the building of schools on the ground, financing learning material and teachers, supporting impoverished families and providing the children with primary medical care. Stefan Pleger, President of the Tiroler Hilfswerk organisation, long-term board member of Doctors Without Borders in Austria and newly named Austrian of the Year 2010 (in the category of Social Engagement), places great emphasis on the fact that 100% of the money donated is spent directly on the children in Uganda.

ATP´s Christmas Donation will make it possible to build a school for around 240 children in Banda. Two simple school buildings each containing three classrooms will be built according to local traditional building methods. The fact that the building work will be carried out by local contractors is an important part of the self-help project.
